Cook Islands - Forging of Independence – Delaware
Description
Forging of Independence – Delaware commemorates a turning point in the American Revolutionary War: General George Washington's famous crossing of the Delaware River in 1776. The scene symbolizes courage, determination, and the struggle for freedom.
The dramatic motif is struck in impressive relief with artistic selective gilding on the waving flag and clothing. A finely detailed background map and historical battle scenes enhance the authenticity. The surrounding inscription "These are the times that try men's souls" is one of the revolution's most famous quotes. The obverse depicts the Battle of Trenton. An antique finish gives the issue a timeless, historical character.
