We have reached the final challenge in our quest to climb the Seven Summits. An icy wind lashes at us as we make our way across Antarctica. We are crossing snow-covered plains in an extremely dangerous part of the world.
Soon, Mount Vinson towers before us over the icy wasteland. Located in the southern part of the Sentinel Range, Antarctica’s highest mountain lies more than 1,200 kilometers from the South Pole – the most remote of the seven summits. Covered in ice and snow, it was the last of the famous peaks to be discovered (1957), climbed (1966), and finally named (2006). Mount Vinson is therefore the perfect choice to complete the grand 7 Summits series.
