Niue - Jerusalem Knights
Description
Jerusalem Knights kicks off Holy Knights – an eight-coin tribute to the great Christian knightly orders, in collaboration with SDE. The first release rides under the True Cross with the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, who swore to protect the Holy City.
The gates open at dawn. Beyond them lies a road of dust, heat, and uncertainty. Knights ride out under the True Cross, carrying not just a holy relic, but the entire weight of Jerusalem.
They belong to the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, one of the earliest Christian knightly orders, founded to guard the tomb of Christ and protect those who came to pray in the Holy City. Their duty was not conquest. It was to stand watch, to defend, and to remain faithful to the place entrusted to them.
Jerusalem Knights begins Holy Knights, an eight-coin series dedicated to the great Christian knightly orders. This first release captures the moment before battle, when faith, duty, and the fate of Jerusalem still rode together.
In 1187, that duty led them toward Hattin. Surrounded by Saladin’s forces, cut off from water, and weakened by smoke and exhaustion, the Crusader army faced a battle it could not win. Thousands were lost. The True Cross vanished in the chaos, and just a few months later, Jerusalem fell.
Yet the order did not disappear with the city it swore to protect. It survived without walls, without a stronghold, and without the relic that had once been carried into battle.
This is not a story of victory, but of faith, sacrifice, and a duty that endured long after the battlefield fell silent.
Jerusalem fell, but the age of the holy orders endured. Eight orders. Eight legacies. A history forged by faith, duty, and sacrifice.
