This is the second release in the successful Tiffany Art Metropolis series. The 2022 edition is dedicated to the capital of Italy – Rome. Few other cities offer such a blend of modern lifestyle and ancient history. One moment you can enjoy the latest fashion trends on the high street, and the next, just around the corner, stand before a historical monument – a contemporary witness to the Roman Empire.
The reverse side shows Rome from a bird's-eye view, highlighting selected buildings such as the Colosseum, the Vatican, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain. Thanks to the improved smartminting® technology, one can easily lose themselves in the highly detailed, vast road network. The obverse side depicts one of Rome's most famous bridges, the Ponte Sant’Angelo. It was originally built in 134 AD by the Roman Emperor Hadrian to span the Tiber from the city center to his newly erected mausoleum, now the Castel Sant’Angelo fortress.
The Tiffany Art glass for which the series is known winds through the city as a representation of the River Tiber. The way the green-colored glass appears to literally split the coin in two is a groundbreaking achievement in numismatic technology.
